axon Zool.
Portion of nerve cell or neurone which transmits an electrical impulse signal away from the cell.
azeotrope Chem.
A mixture of two liquids that boils at constant composition. This means that the proportion composition of the constituents in liquid and vapor phases is the same. Initially, when a mixture is boiled, the vapor contains a higher proportion of the more volatile
component which can subsequently be fractionally distilled off. Eventually, the proportion of this component presents in the liquid falls to a point whereby the vapor contains the same amount of composition mixture. The composition of an azeotrope depends on the pressure.
It is also called azeotropic mixture or constant-boiling mixture. For example, the azeotropic mixture of benzene and water boils at 69.3°C with mole fraction of water as 0.3.
